ironically, the "women & nonbinary" groupings mostly (but not exclusively) pushed by cis people make the presumption of including the nonbinary people who are not women and don't want to be included as women, but exclude the nonbinary people who are, b/c of the degendering effect of sexing the body

because "America" is the name for the *whole continent*, so they're as much Americans as people from the US. the problem is that the US, for some reason (imperialism), decided to name itself after the whole continent rather than the specific region it governs

it's definitely not fake. idk Portuguese, but pretty much every spanish-speaking country refers to the US/people from the US as "Estados Unidos"/"estadounidenses"

most of the pushback against calling people from the US "Americans" comes from people from Latin American countries,
