CA's governing structures still being based on 19th century frontier shit is also a huge part of the problem, encourages lots of fiefdoms and boosterism

When you get pushed out of the Bay you're also more likely to move to a different metro, unlike LA where you just have a longer commute. Lots of former Bay Area in Sac, Las Vegas, etc.

yeah and also there's just MORE. LA is 2x bigger pop with much more land and has decent population centers past mountain ranges unlike the Bay Area that dwindles past the East Bay Hills.

SF is a boom/bust city and when a boom happens, change has a flywheel effect affecting everyone. Cash offers on homes, changing storefronts in the Mission, tech buses on 101... It's inescapable versus LA with a patchwork geography

SF tech booms concentrate more in dense, urban SOMA/Downtown SF versus LA's patchwork of CBDs ... meant spillover to East Bay became far more acute during the boom affecting another progressive base.
