Just got a LOUD and annoying emergency message from South Pasadena which is 25 miles away. The message: “never mind”!

Probably annoyed everyone in LA county, all 10 million of us.

Still not fixed today, @nyt
But I had already found everything:

The scale height of trick or treaters being only about 5 meters, I don’t expect any. But we are ready.

Lots of TV ad money bragging about @t-mobile.bsky.social having great coverage but they have no coverage at my house a block off Beverly Glen between Mulholland and Sunset in LA

Cheaper to talk a big game than deliver service I guess

Billionaires spending big to stop California from countering the outrageous Texas gerrymander. But nonpartisan redistricting has to apply to every district to work and that means all 435 house districts.

Including Texas!

Our corrupt Supreme Court hasn’t acted and won’t unless the GOP is hurt. 1/

Last day of August and there is a definite end of summer vibe

Here’s a panorama of the Eel Pond at sunset

Ship news: the Lynx and the Neil Armstrong went out on Saturday the 23rd perhaps because Hurricane Erin was gone. Woods Hole got 25-30 mph steady winds as Erin passed by.
But the Corwith Cramer returned to Dyers Dock on Sunday.

A new tall ship in Woods Hole- the Lynx based in Nantucket.
At first I thought the Corwith Cramer was back.
But the Neil Armstrong is back.

About 3.2 miles, nearly halfway, the race and the bike path cross

After the race rounds Nobska Point

Nice weather for watching the road race but probably a bit warm for the runners.

The annual synchronized emergence of the Porta-Potties is happening now. There was nothing last night, and by Monday they will have all disappeared.

Road Race tomorrow

Eel Pond striped bass. This population migrates from Wood Hole to the Chesapeake Bay every year but in Woods Hole they hang out near the building where MBL maintains its research specimens. Those that don’t make it get fed to the bass.

Rather large powerboat by Penza ce Point this morning. I can’t read the name.

The Neil Armstrong came in and is on the other side of Smith dock. This photo is on Aug 10th.
Then it went out again by Aug 14th

The biggest mystery in Woods Hole, outside of the nature of the 70% of the world covered by oceans and the life therein, is whether it’s Stoney Beach or Stony Beach.

On my way to buy eggs at the Woods Hole Market I saw that the Corwith Cramer is back and then I had to wait for the drawbridge

WHOI’s current big R/V, the Neil Armstrong, came in today. In the 60’s the R/V Chain was the big R/V, and I spent a week on it off Portugal.
The Chain was a minesweeper in WWII and was scrapped years ago. The Captain Kidd used to have her nameplate hanging in the bar.

New ship in at WHOI Smith dock, the R/V Atlantic Explorer from the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences
July 22, 2025 at 1:51 PM
I’m in Woods Hole
Here’s a photo of the Corwith Cramer of the Sea Education Association
There’s a meeting happening on the fantail so I think they’ll be sailing soon

The waxing gibbous Moon over a house on the next street over, with the background noise of unseen distant fireworks.

Happy 4th!

That inclination takes it over LA so I got a good shot
