if you dress the part, you can go dig around construction sites looking for cool old things. this whiskey bottle is only from 1956, but hopefully older things come up as the pit gets excavated deeper

yesterday I was diagnosed with level one autism spectrum disorder. there are few (if any) resources for the late diagnosed, but I'm still very happy that I went through this process

Do you happen to know the best ways to restore and preserve these halftone print blocks? I have one of my grandfather from ~1939, and it looks like there is some corrosion (maybe) on the top right corner and near the center

Almost bumped into a deer this morning while in a walk. She poked her head out from a hedge a couple metres from me, then stayed close for a bit so I could get few pictures

Yesterday my partner took me to a newly demolished home so we could dig around and find old bottles. There were a lot of bottles from the 40s and 50s, but also tons of petrified wood! This is one of my favourite places that we found there

On this day last year I reconnected with my birth mother, having my first real contact with her since I was adopted as a kid. It was her birthday. A month later, I was sitting with her in a hospital as she was dying. I hope that she feels me thinking about her today. Happy birthday Rose 🌹

I mailed an old family photo album to one of the living descendants of the people pictured, and I got this nice letter back from them! Feels so good to return photos to their families

See ya, Amazon. I'm going to be more intentional with what I buy, and where I buy it from. I hope that other union members across Canada do the same

Lastly, to find Nicoló Mangione's marriage certificate, I browsed the wedding book the year before Luigi was born, knowing Italian naming patterns meant the first son would be named after the father's father. If I didn't see it there, I would browse earlier. Nicoló married Carmela Marasà in 1890 3/

Luigi's parents are listed as Nicola Mangione, age 26, son of the late Luigi, and Carmela Marasa. Knowing Nicola's age I was able to find his birth certificate in 1863. Here, Nicola is spelled Nicoló. His parents are Luigi Mangione, born around 1824, and Signorella Lionarda (sp?) born around 1823 2/

There's lots in the news lately on Luigi Mangione and his grandfather Nick, and it gave me an opportunity to practice my Italian genealogy. Nick's father was also Luigi Mangione. He was born in Castrogiovanni, which is now called Enna, near the center of Sicily (all records from Portale Antenati) 1/

Very ready for the weekend. Got some genealogy research plans I am looking forward to getting to, and hopefully I can get a bit of writing done too. What will you be doing or learning about?

Last year I created this photo fan chart with photos of my birth family, which was a really fun project. My computer died shortly after, but luckily I saved my template to the cloud. I want to recreate this soon, with better quality photos I've been able to borrow from aunts and cousins #genealogy

Solidarity with CUPW! Canada's posties are on strike, and I hope their employer is reasonable and comes back to the bargaining table.

Sipping some coffee as I get ready to head out. Going to return these pages from a 1915 photo album to a descendant of the family pictured! Bought them cheap on eBay, hoping that I could find the family. This will be the second album I've been able to research and return

Archaeology is a passion of mine, and I got this tattoo in June. It's inspired by art that was uncovered in Pompeii this year. The original charcoal sketches were made by a child nearly 2000 years ago. Real archaeology and history is so fascinating, who needs pseudoarchaeology?

One of my hobbies is cleaning up older grave stones and monuments at my local cemetery. Here's the first one I did. It's the stone for one of my great-grandfathers.
