I pet dogs. I bike places.
I read books. I wear tricorns on occasion. I collect really old maps. I do Masonic stuff sometimes.
Winter has arrived. I want to live where I can go biking right now.

Snoop Dogg the Elf keeps his benevolent eye on both the naughty and nice alike as he Remembers the Maine in a late 1890s Victory Glassware Co. candy dish.

Today’s thirty mile bike ride from AkSarBen to Lake Cunningham, twice around the lake, and back put me at my goal of 1,500 miles of outdoor riding for the year! Hope to get another 100 or so miles before the weather gets too cold.

I’ve been wanting this 1866 General Land Office map on the progress of public surveys in Nebraska and Kansas for a while. I finally got it. #mapgeek

For a seemingly peaceful people, the Munchkins had a well-armed military presence, which immediately began goose-stepping through the town to loud cheers.

I get the impression their tanks will be driving through Emerald City in a matter of weeks while the Mayor speaks of needing lebensraum.

I blew my life savings on every known soap scum and mildew cleaner for my bathtub. They accomplished nothing.

I used caustic chemicals that have been illegal since the 1950s. Nothing.

I tried a tincture of radium and cesium-186. The mildew and soap scum just laughed and didn’t budge.

Took the day off. This was my office for the morning. A perfect day for a long bike ride!

Jennifer: Why are you watching a tv show about James Garfield?
Self: Because he was a lasagna eating, Monday hating, gold standard supporting President.
Jennifer: I think you’re mixing up your Garfield’s.

Meet the new @gozwift.bsky.social trainer which will guide me back to the healthsomeness I enjoyed this summer. It has both advantages and disadvantages over the 2006 Specialized Allez I had on my trainer but so far I like it quite a bit. Back to daily rides, indoor and out as weather permits.

After a long day of work, I came home to find this cool

#mapsinthewild Idly flipping through tv shows on Netflix tonight and noticed Andreas Cellarius’ “Southern Stellar Hemisphere of Antiquity” from Harmonica Macrocosmica, 1660. An excellent choice for background art!

J has a plate from Macrocosmica, but hers is a 1708 Valk &Schenk edition. #mapgeek

Really want to do the 11th bike ride on Rouvy’s Mallorca virtual challenge but not too many nice Fall evenings for biking left for the year, so I did a 21 mile ride along the Wabash Trace in Iowa. Incredible weather and even better views of the western Iowa Loess Hills countryside.

You know what would be dope right now on a cool Autumn Monday morning in October?

Going biking.

View from the handlebars - always the best view. Rode 25 miles by myself from AkSarBen to Cunningham, and then rode 28 miles with my new bike posse from home to Democracy Park (with a beer stop at the Kinkader). Fifty three miles of biking (even non-consecutive) in one day is a new record for me!

A few photos from the Churchill Society of Omaha’s smoker at Shadow Ridge Country Club, with special guest Winston Churchill (aka Randy Otto, who has traveled the world as Sir Winston). Wonderful evening celebrating an extraordinary person!

Another perfect early-Fall morning and the temperature was about 66° for biking. I had only intended to ride 20 miles on the Keystone trail to Bellevue but it was so nice out, I pushed myself to ride 25 miles.

Got a late start to the bike trail today but it was worth the wait. Weather was perfect! Rode the Trek Domane SL5 from AkSarBen to Cunningham and two laps around the lake for thirty miles. Let’s do that again! Where shall we ride tomorrow? Who’s in? #pedalon
