They used to be better at this -- 2005: "185 library systems, representing 129 cities from 51 countries" web.archive.org/web/20041205... Though of course that also meant much longer long/nominated-lists. Don't know why they have such trouble keeping libraries on board/enlisting new ones.

Poor geographic distribution (e.g. only 2 libraries from Africa, very little Asian representation (only 1x India; large parts of continent not represented); etc.) and home-favoring selections (New Zealand: 4 (!) libraries selecting books by 4 NZ authors ....) top the list.

Always approve of the public being informed what titles are actually in the running for a prize ! That said, I have a LOT of issues with the nominating procedure here.

(These are very good, but looking back on Shakespeare for review-purposes I'm reminded just how leagues-beyond incredible Shakespeare's work is. Really should return to it far more often/regularly.)
