February 24, 2025, Stamford: 3 male moths surround a wingless female on a maple tree twig. They are probably the invasive winter moths but could be native or naturalized kin.

February 7, 2025, Stamford, CT: good look at one of the male hooded mergansers wintering in the Rippowam River. Very handsome ducks but very small - only half the size of the mallards. Good divers that will eat water greens but also catch fish, crayfish, eels, etc.

Feb 8, 2025, Stamford, CT: mallard couple emerging from dappling,  still slick with water.  While mallards can dive, they'd rather just poke their heads down to feed on underwater plants and an occasional fish, while searching the bottom for preserved crabapples and acorns.

February 7, 2025: Stamford CT. Geese do not eat broad-leafed plants. When the turf is snow covered, it's good to give them whole grains such as organic cracked corn. Never feed wildlife bread or other processed foods - it fills them up without providing necessary nutrition.

January 26, 2025: Stamford CT. Young male hooded merganser- still has juvenile red-tinged crest like his mom but a black beak like his dad.

January 24, 2025: White-Throat Sparrow, tan eye brow morph. This sparrow species had white and tan eye brow morphs. The coloring makes a huge difference in popularity, behavior etc. See www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/White-....
