I teach writing, play games, and read medieval.
"Guillermo, I know the title suggests Wordsworth is a few miles *above* Tintern Abbey, but ..."
"I included the sycamore."
"Yes, yes, you did, and the action to stand there is quite fun. But did the hill have to be on the back of a giant a few miles tall, terrorizing the abbey?"
"Yes, of course."

I find students fixate on the three things without working out what connects them. Tell me about the cake, not the ingredients. Tell me a story about a weird thing you noticed, not the three formal elements you'll move through to briefly mention that weird thing somewhere in the telling.

A barber once asked me that. I had no idea there *was* a "toward"/"towards" difference. He seemed very surprised I didn't know. Afterward, I looked that up and found there wasn't a difference after all, except maybe region of preference ("toward" ~ American, "towards" ~ British). I'd been duped!

"What do you think about *toward* versus *towards*?"

Yes - unless you put it to *use*! Most of my boxes are gone, but my Switch box has a PS2 in it (FITS SURPRISINGLY WELL), and for the moment the Switch 2 box has a Switch in it, though I'll probably toss the box once I regift the Switch.

Muppet Adama: "Jump drive?"

Muppet Helo: *shakes his head grimly*

Muppet Adama: "Then this is it." *to crew* "It's been an honor."

Solemn music, slow pan out as the Battlestar is bombarded. Then -

Kermit: "Er, Pegasus here. Get your FTL up and running and let us handle the rest."

Melantho is making the best of a bad situation. Penelope can't make the suitors leave? Well, she has to survive. And when a new person comes in, she justly tries to do what Penelope doesn't: she tells him to go home. How was she to know he *was* home?

I hadn't heard of South Peak Interactive. They apparently made a number of licensed games, none of which I played, from 1996 to 2000. (I remember the Dukes of Hazzard game on a game store shelf, at least.)

“Forward, the Light Brigade!”
Was there a man dismayed?
Not though the soldier knew
Someone had blundered.
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
Into the toilets of Death
Trod the six hundred.

That would be a sick character select screen.

The Jets were originally the Sujets, in honor of French existentialists, the word *sujet* acknowledging that we are all beings and all animals. Then they shortened it to "Jets" because they didn't want to be boys named Su.

Do we get confirmation of an extended universe of musical fabrics, like satin, chiffon, or Lycra?
