I spent a couple of days helping out with coverage of the LA fires. The destruction is so widespread it’s hard to grasp. The fire can be cruelly uneven, leaving a home relatively unscathed while the next door burns to the ground.

The other night we embraced the big dark (and a dry evening) and spent some time at the beach with a black light looking for sea glass. The kid was throroughly entertained.

This spawning migration happens at Longfellow Creek, just a 5 minute walk from my house.

Unlike last year when a big beaver dam and low water flow stopped them, coho salmon and pushing their way upstream.
