... impacted how he got into music in the first place. Hearing him talk about how often he feels out of place with Latin influences in club music hits hard for me when South Asian music had / has its moment, as I don't speak Punjabi (a few cuss words aside) and didn't grow up with Bhangra etc

I will admit I don't know much about NYC clubs, certainly past the golden eras of the 80s / 90s (never been to the States and that doesn't look like it's changing any time soon for obvious reasons) so great to hear J's take on that post Covid, as well as how his religious Puerto Rican background...

Shawn always seems to know what's going on behind the scenes in the various territories of dance music so if the culture interests you, his Substack is definitely worth paying for. Plus the freedom to just chat to an artist out of curiosity is the best part of interviewing and he totally gets that
