My husband works with lots of immigrant high earners and they feel just as targeted as any other, because immigrants don’t get asked how much they contribute before they get their head kicked in! The rhetoric is appalling.

Absolutely! I think this is ignored completely. There was a time when only one person in a family went out to work so is that now an example of individuals not contributing to the state finances? There is so much confused thinking behind these ludicrous statements. Society is not just about money.

I hope it will be full of stories about wonderful immigrants working hard, raising families, helping communities, creating jobs, looking after children and caring for the elderly…..but of course most of those stories will never be told or will fall on deaf ears. And ugly racism will prevail.

A bit misleading. The report says earlier lockdown would have saved many lives, and with proper precautions and better leadership then subsequent lockdowns could have been avoided. It doesn’t say national lockdown could have been avoided altogether, as this statement implies.

Where I live, Reform will win seats unless tactical voting pays off. I’m torn now as Labour will be the most likely to beat them again, but I feel so uncomfortable with myself. I don’t want to vote for this Labour,I also can’t vote against them in this area, and Reform will be worse if they win. 🤦♀️

Completely agree. I couldn’t tell you if I have ever been in a public toilet with a trans woman. If I have, that person has been so discreet I haven’t noticed. The majority of people in public toilets don’t parade around in their underwear, pointing out their private parts!

Manifestos of the future will be short and sweet. “Performative cruelty is the basis for all our decisions. You pick the target and we will do our best to make everything worse.”

The notion that the best way to counter anti immigration sentiment is to embrace cruelty against the most vulnerable immigrants makes no sense to me. But then I remember that cruel rhetoric forms the basis of political choices all the time - single mothers, the disabled, benefit scroungers etc etc.

This is the most frustrating aspect of all. We waste time and effort explaining the rampant conflation, all the while hoping that if people just understood the rules and terms properly then they would see the injustices heaped on immigrants of all kinds. A vain hope, maybe, but we can’t give up!

So according to the Daily Mail, 80% of Britain is white so …. Why all the fuss about immigration? They undo their own argument in this article, unless I’m missing something?
