The tax exemption was given because they argued the public benefit they provided in community services (e.g. housing and feeding the poor) exceeded the value they’d pay in taxes. If they aren’t providing that value and now want to become political, they can be taxed

Fair. The “reasonable grounds” part and scope has to be more clearly defined in committee before its passed. But this really isnt as scary as its been made out to be. Most of it is clarifying and powers that already were there

No, the Customs Act applies to international borders. CBSA has no authority to open/inspect domestic mail. However, Bill C2 would amend the Canada Post Corporation Act, allowing Canada Post to open and inspect letter mail in certain circumstances under “reasonable grounds” with law enforcement

This right to search was there before. It was in the Customs Act and there was no warrant required. It was challenged in court. This is just clarifying and that right that was previously there
