Such a fantastic piece, Anna! Congrats! I'll look forward to teaching this, and to snagging the "Be collective, do heists" merch when it drops...

Yes! Great conversations about service work, sex work, aspiration, and precarity. We also read it as a retelling of Gatsby, one of the few texts they had in common. How come these critiques of the ultra rich take so much pleasure in cataloguing their stuff? (see also: White Lotus, Succession, etc.)

It's a co-taught class on the fiction and sociology of work. So we do Waldman with Braverman, Emma Cline's The Guest alongside The Managed Heart, Lightning Rods with Theory of the Gimmick + The Last Human Job, plus Severance (Ma) / Severance (Stiller)... It's such a fun class!

So excited to read this, because (a) SNEAKERS, and (b) I have a lecture on the heist-as-collective-action in Adelle Waldman's HELP WANTED, and I can't wait to work this in!

Thanks, Matt! I'm thrilled. Now I can probably stop shouting "I'm actually a FORMALIST!" in various situations...
