ONE MORE TIME FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK.
THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN MAKING THE GOVT EFFICIENT.
THEY ARE INTERESTED IN MAKING IT EVEN SHITTIER.
SO YOU DON'T LIKE IT. AND GET MAD.
AND THEN THEY PRIVATIZE IT.
SO THEIR BUDDIES GET MORE MONEY.

BK/NYC remains undefeated. Pulled a shift at the bike shop, walked two blocks to a UPS store, shipped an eBay sale, walked out the store into a subway station. Transportation. Alternatives.

"I watched the movie 'Harlan County, USA' last night, and it was the same stuff going on back then. It's the same old story, and eventually you just have to go in and fight for what's right, regardless of the consequences."

Suchir Balaji... what a wild time we live in. Writes a very clear, concise argument for why Gen AI is not fair use of its training data and ends up dead.

Is Philadelphia the urban planning model for American cities that Jane Jacobs imagined?? Human scale? Super short blocks, mixed use everywhere, easy to navigate grids??

I'm going to stop being gripe-y for a second (sorry, but I have sign-posted I'm a bit stressed) to be a touch more positive:

The 📰 News feed is currently receiving about *1.2 MILLION* requests a *DAY*

That's ridiculous. What's even more ridiculous is I'm able to serve this traffic on $50 of infra.

I'm aligned in "Overenthusiastic LLM usage" remaining in "Hold" on the tech radar but I really highly encourage everyone to mess around with LM Studio if you have the compute. Like why would I pay for OpenAI?

Landed at LGA last night around 11:30pm and the BQE on the way home was literally like being in NFSU2. Combination of cars going both 20 under the speed limit and 50 over.

One thing I did not have on my bingo card is DRM for ebooks. I'm no stranger to libgen but the fact that publishers can create false scarcity by limiting the copies libraries can have is crazy to me. Storage is cheap!! Copy the bits!!
