anyway this might be slightly incoherent since i originally wrote it at 4am and all but LIKE. this poem, and the way eblana and loughshinny continue to perceive what comes next differently, has me rabid

with elegies they wove a beautiful, tragic story...

but it is indeed "just a story." their future need not be decided by it — and certainly won't be, because eblana would never allow herself to be limited by such a thing.

"This is just a story, not a map of our future."

eblana is rejecting the idea that this is truly the death of their romance, and in asserting that loughshinny need not cry is all but promising to return to her.

the blurb on the node is from eblana to loughshinny, and reads "This is just a story, not a map of our future. There's no need to cry, Loughshinny."

eblana herself, though, gives us a hint of a more positive future for them. the story node where she entices loughshinny to kill her, EA-ST-2, is called "Death of a Romance" — which aligns very much with loughshinny's poem. but what does eblana have to say about that title?

given eblana's deceit, few remain who know both of them exist. eblana can't have a real grave, and even if one were made for her it would need to be secret and likely tended only by loughshinny. all loughshinny has left, now...

is brushing the dust off of the grave of her love.
