A less-known pharmacist is Bartolomeo Maranta - a former student of Luca Ghini - who worked with plants in Naples (in a garden of Giovan Vincenzo Pinelli) and published a fascinating Method on studying plants in 1559 --- several years before Cesalpino, but also Pena and Lobel #plantstudies #histsci
