This is one of my favourite gates in a road of garages near me. I’m not a painter but if I were one then I’d like to be able to use colour and shape this beautifully.

I really enjoyed the halloween episode of the @themerl.bsky.social’s podcast, Absolute Units.

It features another favourite podcaster of mine, Mark Norman of @folklorepod.bsky.social.

That was a spooky walk!

I very rarely feel uncomfortable on a walk but being surrounded by fog makes everything feel… other.

A bit like walking in the dark, you just don’t know what’s out there.

Scenes of bitter rivalry from the traditional English sport of electing a new vicar
....Parishioners split themselves into rival camps, embroidered the names of the candidates whom they favoured on their clothes and generally undermined the peace and spiritual goodwill of the place."

What do you call this plant?

A while ago I asked on here and on instagram what different names people have for this plant. A lot of people said Bindweed, Convolvulus, or Morning Glory. But I was surprised at how many names I was given that were similar to the one I know: Granny-pop-out-of-bed

Recipe book update:

When I first started this book, I foolishly cut out a few pages where I’d made some mistakes. This, predictably, destabilised the binding for some of the other pages…

I love the beautiful mottled reds in these mosaïcs from Rockboune Roman Villa in Wiltshire. They make me think of fallen leaves in the golden autumn sunlight. 🍂🍁✨

Tesco had no rosemary yesterday.

On my way home I saw a huge rosemary bush in a garden, so I asked if I might have a single sprig.

The owner me gave me more rosemary than I’ll get through in a year, and lots of sage!

He told me to help myself any time.

Should we all have communal herb gardens?

This is a really interesting thread about the use of blue pigment by palaeolithic people
Time to update your Palaeolithic palettes... 🔵

Very proud to share our new research on the OLDEST use of blue pigment! We identified traces of azurite - a vibrant blue mineral - on a stone object around 14-13,000 years old. Why is this so exciting? 👇🏺

I love this era of comedy West Country merch
I held a baby lamb and fly's a puppy they are dogs but fly's puppy didn't have it's eyes open but we had a lovely time. Our cottage is very nice because it's all old fashion. And it is thathed. The weather is fine.

Right. What names do you know for this plant? I’ll start:

I call it Granny-pop-out-of-bed (which my Granny taught me)

A bad day for a pale person to take a slow walk in a long coat around the graveyard
Well, if it’s 23 September... YES, THAT’S RIGHT! It’s the 71st anniversary of the hunt for the Gorbals Vampire, in which hundreds of children aged from four to 14, armed with dogs, knives and sharpened sticks went looking for an urban myth
