I agree wholeheartedly with those suggesting a smaller project; scarves are uncomplicated, but can be long projects for a beginner! when I was starting out as a wee one, I made book marks in different colours & trialled different wool, needles, finishes, etc.; fun & quick, plus great trial & error!
