Mind you, I had first heard about this like... 5 years ago at least, and just sorta seen it parroted since then, so aside from people saying it's bad, I haven't really seen specific details on how bad it is. Heck, your post goes into detail on stuff about it I've never seen anyone say.

I guess maybe I'd have to do some more research or something, because I'd like to have the mode on, and if it's not nearly as bad as people have made it out to be, maybe I'll leave it on?
Most of what I know on the matter is mostly stuff I saw from RiiConnect and WiiLink Discords.

I already used to have the mode enabled sometime back, and I regret it deeply. While my Wii works fine (last I checked, it's been a while since I've had it set up), knowing I might have shortened its life span, using a built in feature of the console, is a shitty feeling, honestly.

It sucks, because I like having it in standby mode, so the weather and news channel is automatically updated, and so your Wii is constantly receiving Wii Mail (hence the glowing blue disc drive light), but considering what it can do to your Wii, it's a risk I don't want to take.

I would say this metric can extend to cases like game commercials and trailers, like that one Rockman 2 tape, which has the original synth demos, and Wily Castle has a lot of extra stuff not in the Famicom game.

The Beta version of Super Bubsy just had the level 1 theme pre console version as a wav, and it seems it was the original intent to just use wav versions of all of the demo tracks. But for some reason (maybe space and streaming issues?), that just never came to be.

If anyone is curious, they all come from the PC version of the game, Super Bubsy. 3 of the tracks were included as CD Audio tracks, and are denoted as being demo tracks from the early 90s, in the game's help file. The title theme is just a wave file on the disc, and the level 1 theme is from a beta

As a kid, I was mystified by it, simply because I never got the chance to try it. But then once I tried it on Toontown Archive, I realized very quickly why they changed it. Sorta shattered my perception of "older version of game always better than newer one".
