Saw some beautiful Stibnite minerals at the @brucemuseum.bsky.social in Westport CT.

While you could grind these into dust for kohl I’m glad they are safely behind glass.
Always a pleasure to discuss the wonders of lignin.

Note: it’s not suggested to hug the big ball of Twine in Cawker City KS. It’s rumored the locals pee on it.

With that said it has over a literal ton of lignin in it.
🍂 From acorns to lignin — chemistry, creativity, and a dash of twine.
This week’s Greener by Design guest, @manhattanscientist.bsky.social (SUNY FIT), showed how sustainability can be both brilliant and fun:

Yesterday students make mozzarella to explore proteins and Thermo/mechano/chemical changes.

One class did better than the others :/

I'm a little sad that my pitch for an advanced PIME (physical, inorganic, materials, environmental) cosmetics course to complement our GOB cosmetics course wasn't picked up.

Spent most of yesterday cheering on runners in the marathon and thinking about chromatography

My wife has volunteered at a local food bank for years and confirms what many of you have probably heard: in this case, straight cash is a good donation if you can do it.

The food banks have better access and buying power than individuals do, and can try to address item imbalances as they see them.

Every time I carry a book around New York City, I wonder what Will Smith’s character in Men and Black would think if he saw me.

Would he think I was an alien or not?

I’ve wondered for a while how we might be able to incorporate an OSHA 40 training into one of our lab classes or our toxicology class…
