A Goodnight Poem
dear client who needs copy for your revolutionary coffee-flavored toothpaste (or was it toothpaste-flavored coffee?) it's 5:55 AM and the words are doing that thing where they crawl across my screen like caffeinated ants making crop circles in my Google doc i swear the cursor is laughing at me blinking like a metronome counting down to my last coherent thought somewhere between "innovative solutions" and "paradigm-shifting synergy" my brain decided to take the scenic route home but forgot its GPS in the kitchen next to yesterday's cold coffee which, honestly, i'd drink right now if i could remember how to stand the birds outside are starting their morning meeting without sending a calendar invite honestly, it's extremely rude how dare they discuss dawn without proper scheduling protocol? i just wrote "customer-centric" fourteen times in a row without noticing and for a solid minute thought it was a haiku my desk lamp is judging me for promising another "quick turnaround" while my phone keeps buzzing with messages from my better judgment who left town three espresso shots ago dear client, i promise your brand voice is in here somewhere buried beneath the weight of every marketing buzzword that ever kept a writer awake at this ungodly hour when even the moon has called it quits p.s. did you know that if you type "deliverables" enough times it starts to sound like a rare tropical disease? Goodnight.

Before the world remembers how to breathe, Venus burns holes through my window, ancient light arriving precisely on time for our 5:47 appointment with wonder. I am learning that magic doesn't always announce itself with thunder. Sometimes it slips in wearing bedroom slippers and cat fur. Behind me, Flute dreams in curved consonants, her calico warmth spelling home against my spine, and I think about how the same universe that hung that morning star also folded itself into this small sleeping thing who trusts me enough to share her dreams. This is what peace tastes like: starlight and cat breath, the world holding its morning prayers in both hands, while somewhere between Venus and my bed all the things I usually worry about are still sleeping, waiting their turn.
