I don’t know if I ever mentioned, but my own dear mother taught English at Stevenson for a year, before getting pregnant with my older sister (and of course continuing to teach was Not the Done Thing back then). She talked about it often.

The flip side of this is that the worst wrecks I ever used to see on the highway are those that happened on no-weather days - nothing makes Michiganders crash horribly like broad daylight, 50 degrees, no precipitation, and some nice cloud cover to cut the glare.

Both of these, plus a touring production of “Sweeney Todd” when I was at a much too tender elementary school age.
