Secondhand is the way. Haven't bought any optics new and won't start now. I'll let those who have enough money not to care make the initial investment and pick up their cast-offs when fashion dictates they "upgrade".

Always great to have art to bring those memories to vivid life over and over again mate.

I love Phil's paintings. I've got Red-footed and Brown Booby pictures from him up at home. Superb bird too!

They've been uncharacteristically showy this last few weeks. Still couldn't get a photo...

I saw two of the three at Flamborough yesterday, but there were so many wrens ticking and tacking I was over-listening and mixing them up!

Cheers mate, was a bit unexpected! The OBP was a real stunner, and the Dusky Warbler showed so much better than I expected. Hoping for a day at Spurn or Flamborough on Saturday if the easterlies hold the next couple of days.

That's an absolutely remarkable day and you did well not to give up as hypothermia set in! I'm an incredibly slow cyclist, I'd have missed the LEO for sure! Thanks for the kind comments too.

That's a proper bird race! I took part in the Chorley one a couple of times in the late 90s and that was an early May one, but I don't think we ever got much above 95 species. Would be easier with a coast!
