Dem voter in a red state, looking to encourage Senators and legislature to observe democratic norms and oppose the totalitarian rhetoric of the current administration through direct communication.

Writing several emails a week to voice concerns.
Once again, I ask that you please stand up for North Carolina and America and challenge the reprehensible policies of this administration.

There is not much more to say about the protests. I know that Fox News didn't bother reporting on this, in the same way that they don't report on the decimation of our economy (a topic for another day), so your idiot king doesn't know that his loyal subjects are actually concerned.
April 5, 2025 at 9:24 PM
but part of the privilege of being in this country is being protected by the constitution from thugs such as your president.
April 5, 2025 at 9:24 PM
yet they feel that they have lost their right to speak their minds because your conservative ideology says that being in this country is a privilege that can be revoked by fiat. You may be correct that being in this country is a privilege...
April 5, 2025 at 9:24 PM
This is disgusting and un-American. These are people who have lived in this country for many years, have raised American children, paid American taxes, not broken any American law...
April 5, 2025 at 9:24 PM
However, I am really writing because the protest was not as large and vocal as it should have been. Several people that I know chose not to attend, not because they agree with the policies of your president, but because they are scared to protest because they are green-card holders.

While I may disagree with your push for a conservative future for North Carolina, I don't see "extreme-washing" anyone who disagrees with you as sign that you are willing to seriously debate the merits of your positions against the merits of more liberal positions.
March 22, 2025 at 10:16 PM
This is a very disappointing and disingenuous characterization and does not help with debate. It is not "extremist" to feel that the current administration does not stand for all Americans and does not have our best interests at heart.
March 22, 2025 at 10:16 PM
One last thing, the other day you were in Raleigh and were met by peaceful but vocal demonstrators. I was not there, but wish that I had been. Your office issued a statement saying the demonstrators were from "extreme left-wing groups".
March 22, 2025 at 10:16 PM
When true antisemites marched on Charlottesville chanting "we will not be replaced" and carrying swastikas, your president defended them as "good people". So pardon me if I don't trust our current leadership to be anything other than hypocritical.
March 22, 2025 at 10:16 PM
Second, you say: " We cannot tolerate these displays of antisemitism, and stopping it requires leadership from our elected officials." again I agree, but apparently your president does not.
March 22, 2025 at 10:16 PM
And regardless of your beliefs about those cases, the defendants were given a voice and a trial and the ability to defend themselves against the charges. I cannot say the same for the people that you call "terrorists".
March 22, 2025 at 10:16 PM
However, apparently your president feels that domestic terrorism is OK as long as it suits his needs. I would love to see you comment in the same manner about the horrific actions on Jan. 6, 2021 and the subsequent blanket pardons of criminals who broke into the US Capitol and beat police officers.
March 22, 2025 at 10:16 PM
I want to directly quote two things that you say in your email. First you say: "I have long called for those who ignore our laws and advocate for terrorist activities be held accountable." In this statement we are 100% in agreement.
March 22, 2025 at 10:16 PM
That being said if Mahmoud Khalil is a domestic terrorist, as you say, then he should be tried as one and not disappeared by ICE so that he has no voice. This is something that all Americans should expect of their country and it is dishonorable for us to act otherwise.
March 22, 2025 at 10:16 PM
Yet Netanyahu is not Israel and does not speak for all Israelis. Indeed there are many Israelis who disagree with the handling of this situation and feel that Netanyahu has not focused on the hostages but on personal gain. The parallels with your president are uncanny in this regard.
March 22, 2025 at 10:16 PM
I watched in horror as the news of the Hamas attacks on Israel on Oct 7, 2023 unfolded, and I have watched in horror every day since at Israel's response. It is not antisemitic to think that Netanyahu has used that attack as an excuse for the military to destroy Gaza and dehumanize the Gazan's.
March 22, 2025 at 10:16 PM
Dear Senator Tillis,

Thank you for your response to my mail about the handling of the Mahmoud Khalil arrest, however I couldn't disagree with you more on this topic.
March 22, 2025 at 10:16 PM
I will continue my efforts to root out antisemitism here at home, protect Jewish students on our college campuses, and hold school administrators accountable.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely,

Thom Tillis
