Magic Rules Conundrum…
Does anyone know if Fatal Mutation cares whether the card was face down before it was turned face up?
(As far as I know there is no way to turn a face-up card face-up, so this is just for science.)

Not gonna claim the set is great. But it was lightyears ahead of its block forebears Ice Age and Homelands.

If we are all going to be destroyed by a Nevinyrral’s Disk, let that disk find us doing sensible and human things - teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint - not huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about disks.

I was so stoked for this till I read the word “tapped.” Are creature ambush effects really that much worse than counterspells or removal stapled to a creature?

This is a fascinating design. Depending on the threats your opponent is presenting it could be great. Imagine against a green Ourobouroid deck. On the other hand, in 2025 Magic, with so many ETB creatures, it’s strictly worse than a full wrath. But what about decks that want to sac?
