I tell my students that if I ask myself questions like this while I'm reading their work, they're not being clear enough and it reads like they don't know what they're talking about.
"Many advocates" — who are those advocates? why are they significant?

"as it is known" — known by who? advocates? critics?

"it forced" — who is it? what specific people or institutions? are they significant or of consequence?

All these people worried about teachers acknowledging trans kids are going to be upset when their adult kids just stop acknowledging them.

Knowing history (and realizing how much I don't know) can sometimes be a comfort and sometimes be a curse. Some days I get to say "we've been through worse before" and some days it's more "oh, well this is new for us."

The woman in this article is a teacher in the next county over. She's managed to get far too many books removed from school libraries and is moving on to public libraries. According to former students, she also kept a confederate flag in her classroom for years.

They Came For The School Library. Now They're At The Public Library in Escambia County, Florida
What happens at the schools does not stop at the schools. Book banners move the goal posts to the public library.

All I want is a cottage in the Scottish Highlands, a raging snowstorm, and Agatha Christie novel, a crackling fire, a kettle on the stove, and a basket of emotional support pastries.

Every year since 2022, instead of resolutions, I've chosen a focus word to guide my yearly goals. Past options have been whimsy, curiosity, and cozy. I hate it, but I think this year it might need to be security.

I saw a thing once that said no woman should eat a whole bagel by herself. I think about that a lot. Mostly when I'm eating a whole bagel with both cream cheese and raspberry preserves on it.
