It also takes a lot of spine and confidence to set out things straight to powerful folks who don’t really want to know.

But what do I know, I just used to be a fancy pants big town lawyer.

I think it more likely their counsel says the Speech or Debate Clause may give them cover for now, but that political winds are shifting and that may not be true going forward.

Legal counseling shouldn’t be about absolutes. It should be about risk assessment and various options to mitigate risk.
