Something I've been thinking about for a while is the loss of meaning of these terms in the UK, a place where they arguably never enjoyed much stability. Many people claim authority to define what left wing means without ever offering a definition of their own that carries any intellectual weight.
Kingswinford & South Staffs Labour post: On Monday, the Home Secretary will outline the biggest set of changes to the asylum system in modern times. These changes will restore order to our asylum system. There is nothing 'left wing', 'socialist' or 'progressive' about insecure borders.

The Green Party's Peter Campbell has won the Wincheap by-election with 39% of the votes Alarmingly for the Labour party - which still holds the other seat in the two-councillor ward - its share of the vote fell from 40.3% to 12.8%. Newly-elected Mr Campbell says his victory, with 39% of all votes, “comes slightly unexpectedly”. “The Green Party hasn't got a great presence in the city of Canterbury,” he told KentOnline. “We've never campaigned here before – never so much as sent out a leaflet. “We were trying to find out what the appetite was, and what it shows today is there's a big appetite for Green Party politics.” Voters went to the polls yesterday, with the count taking place at the Augustine House library today. The turnout was 33.7%.

I love popping over to Bunhill Fields on a lunch break to find out what the excellent gardeners have been up to recently. Here we have shrubby germander, shrubby Veronica & big blue ladyturf (please note the u). They are going to form a Ramones style New York punk band.
Shrubby germander has striking off-white stalks that veer wildly all over the place. Its leaves are sage green but off-white on the underside. Shrubby Veronica is a compact plant with stalks growing upwards close together and rows of little leaves in criss-cross patterns. Big blue ladyturf has long sharp deep green leaves spreading out from a low thick base and delicate vertical clusters of purple brown buds.

The unit found that 97 government plots were suspiciously transferred, and more than 2,900 unaccounted fuel records suggested misuse of state vehicles. Popped into Freedom after the demo in Whitechapel today & found this very interesting reader, edited by Iain McKay. McKay's introduction seeks to reclaim the term libertarian from its contemporary US right connotations & restore it to the left, with an origin point in a letter from Joseph Déjacque..

Reminds me of a recent conversation w/ a Labour member I know, who had been at conference & believed Starmer had "slayed a few demons". These people are huddling together trying to convince one another they're not ushering in Reform like they can summon a spirit to make everyone else believe it too.
The Labour Senedd member Alun Davies, talking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, criticised his party in Westminster for the way it had been speaking about refugees and “using the language of Reform”. But the Labour UK Cabinet Office minister Nick Thomas-Symonds claimed Keir Starmer openly took on Reform in his conference speech.

Didn't recognise the first of the two characters used in "struggle" when looking up Sanrizuka & it turns out it's a variant form of the complex character for doù (simplified form 斗), which has a great original form:

Prince Andrew has agreed to give up his use of the Duke of York title, he said in a statement released through Buckingham Palace. He will also give up his membership of the Order of the Garter, meaning his only remaining title will be that of prince, which cannot be removed as he was born the son of a queen.
