To the Mozart of Basketball,
Thank you for the passion, the artistry, and the joy.
Your light never dimmed — it just passed to the next dreamer.

Dražen Petrović inspired generations of international players.
He showed that heart, grit, and talent had no borders.
Every time an international player shines in the NBA, a bit of Dražen’s legacy lives on.

Dražen tragically passed away in a car crash in 1993 at just 28.
Gone far too soon.
But his legacy? Eternal.
•FIBA Hall of Fame
•Naismith Hall of Fame
•New Jersey Nets retired his jersey
•Streets, courts, and arenas bear his name

The Yugoslav Wars strained their friendship… but the love never left.
The ESPN “30 for 30” Once Brothers captures it heartbreakingly well.
Dražen and Vlade were more than teammates. They were family.

Off the court? Dražen was fun, sharp-witted, and loyal.
And he had one of the most emotional friendships in basketball history—with Serbian star Vlade Divac.
Two young stars. One tight bond.

In New Jersey, he became a STAR:
•Averaged 22.3 PPG in 1992-93
•Nearly 45% from 3
•Fearless against the game’s best
Dražen worked defenders. Swagger. Precision. Clutch.

When he joined the Portland Trail Blazers in 1989, minutes were scarce… but the fire never faded.
In 1991, he was traded to the Nets. That’s when the world finally saw peak Dražen.

He dominated in Europe with Cibona & Real Madrid:
•2× EuroLeague Champion
•1986 World Championship gold (Yugoslavia)
•1989 EuroBasket MVP
Then… he crossed the ocean to chase the NBA dream.

Born in Šibenik, Yugoslavia (now Croatia), Dražen was already a prodigy by 15. He’d train for HOURS alone — sometimes 6-8 hours a day.
Legend has it he shot 500+ free throws daily before breakfast.
Obsessed. Locked in.

Before Luka, before Dirk — there was Dražen.
A Croatian phenom who lit up Europe and the NBA. Known as “The Mozart of Basketball,” Petrović was pure artistry on the court.

She’s also out here supporting the movement to bring the Houston Comets back. Respect. That legacy deserves to be honored. The Comets were the first dynasty, and Coop was the face of it. #WNBAReWind⬅️ #WNBA

USC days? She already had 2 NCAA titles. Then she hooped overseas for years before the W came along. She was THAT good, even after all that time abroad. Also has an Olympic Gold (1988) and Bronze (1992) with Team USA. #WNBAReWind⬅️ #WNBA
