It's hibernation season. Or, at the very least, settle in, stay warm and don't go out unless you need to and if you're lunar-sensitive curl up in front of a fire. Going to work under harsh artificial light and moving around burning energy is inhumane.

Genuinely though, there are enough people who love what you do (over and above the horse pussy) that you could legitimately start a YouTube channel restoring these machines.

I think we need a community effort to buy you a honkin big ultrasonic cleaner. Something big enough to submerge an entire mechanism into and flush out all the old oil and grease and filth in one go so you just have to worry about going in with greaser and oiler afterwards to get it all smooth again.

You can also grab hex bolts, clamp the thread in a hand drill and use a file to round the head into a dome - then file or saw a slot into the dome to finish. I've done it a few times for old stuff - it's more work but looks more authentic if you can't source better at short notice.

Look up japanning(sp?) - hand tool rescues on YouTube demos a few recipes and methods. It's more 'period correct' than paint but does the same job.
