I restarted Persona 4 Golden on NG+ on hard. I made it to the Yukiko dungeon and stopped for now. I was worried after playing it again it really wouldn’t live up to what I remembered. But there’s something in P4 that just captivates me. I love it

Cont. So as much as I put aside all my bias, I think the original excels in that department. Yes some people might not like the awkward dialogue they went for. But it adds a layer to those final scenes that is irreplaceable. So both games deserve to be played and that’s my conclusion for now💖

Cont. The scenes and acting are where I start sounding like an old head despite being 20. I prefer the original to some of the crucial scenes. Namely the jail, room 312, and Angela’s inferno. A thousand roses to the actors in Remake. But there’s some magic in the originals. Those scenes hit me hard

Lastly, my collective thoughts for now. The game improves a lot. Combat foremost. I’m extremely excited to see this combat in 1, 3, and 4. Though bias leads me to say 3 might be the most fun. The areas, including the town, changing to be streamlined and larger was lovely. Each location was gorgeous

The final two fights were fun. I would dare say two of the most fun fights I’ve had in a survival horror game. And Maria’s fight specifically changing was nice. I mean you got to love not being strangled through that whole fight now. But the destruction was nice. Bit unnecessary but still nice

Lakeview Hotel was a gorgeous final location. The Otherworld being devoid of enemies until the end. Where they die as James’s Otherworld comes to end is a beautiful touch. Some of the final scenes I still prefer in the original with respect

I’ve liked every scene up until now but hot take, the original jail scene is way better. It just doesn’t hit the same tone. To me it’s a scene that’s meant to be creepy and make you question Maria. In this it’s just…flat. I like James wavering but Maria doesn’t have that tone here. Need to rewatch
Angela’s confrontation with her father was good though. I think I do prefer the original on this one. But a detail I noticed in the fight with abstract daddy was the closet. Most likely Angela’s safe space away from her father

Haven’t shared anything because it would just be me saying “this place is amazing” however the amount of enemies in the prison is a little crazy. Corpses littered my path to and from the yard

Heavens Night is stunning. And the foreshadowing in Moonlight Grove is nice. I like how talkative Maria is while traversing and in scenes. It’s just nice seeing one of your favorite characters get more

I’m in awe. My jaw is on the floor after the Rosewater Park scene. Maria is so fucking gorgeous. And the entire scene is just done so well. I might actually prefer this one over the original

First Pyramid Head fight is different. I figured to just run in circles until the siren resounded but man he has reach. Got bonked once and took me down to critical. Dodging is very important I guess. Also Laura sounds good. I’m curious how some of the later scenes will go for her

After the second encounter with Angela I can already say I love what they added. I won’t hide that she’s my favorite character. This is just making me happy to see her story given a bit more light

Lying Figures look amazing and the combat is aggressive. I also love the different path chosen for the opening segment. Reminded me of Silent Hill with how you went through the yards and houses in the beginning
