Living this in reverse right now with importing my American partner to Canada. After thousands of dollars and six months of work on the file, we've managed to *apply*…now a year or two to wait if all goes well. And of course we're lucky, as this is still the easiest way to immigrate

I saw this story earlier and made a mental note to check what you had to say about it! That line about "AI" analysis being "objective" as opposed to scholars' "subjective opinions" is total rage bait

This is amazing on so many levels, including the implied renunciation of scientific "progress." Good thing we gave up on chemistry!

Yes! And I shouldn't have just said physical books – we'll be doing a few weeks on digital remediation and labor and all that good stuff.

This course hasn't even run for years – but I think students are more interested than ever in physical books. And it helped to have librarians & curators guest lecture in my previous classes (inc @leoba.bsky.social)!

Yeah, I've heard lots of people praise the SSHRC model (mostly people with SSHRCs) but there would have been no grad school for me without the US funding model
