The distinction between breaking news and latest news seems to have been permanently lost on most news programs. News that is "breaking" has just happened or still is happening. Latest news could be even a day old. It is one distinction with a difference.

The Maggiano outburst on his way into court reminds me of David Berkowitz's ("Son of Sam") wild-eyed appearance in a Brooklyn court in the 1980s. As he entered, he kept shouting a taunt about one of his victims: "Tracy is a whore." His rant understandably seemed to shock everyone in the courtroom.
