Ackers on a bike/hike
@malcolmackland.bsky.social
Cyclist/hiker - I'm here to inspire and to be inspired, just keep riding/hiking
The reasoning
"The proposals aim to introduce a lower speed limit, thereby reducing the likely potential of injury accidents and create an environment to encourage more walking and cycling."
- yes please!

Sorry bud, not been paying attention, but for me off road gnarly it happens a lot and is mostly fine, road never had a problem on my mid/high range bikes and wheels...

Totally agree, HTs rock - the only reason I moved onto trail bikes for some rides was my ageing body got battered too much by my hardtail on big events (like the Kielder 100), and I needed a 140mm travel both ends bike to nurse me through 10+ hours of riding (still ride hardtails a lot though)

...in many respects, yes, but a specific sort of hardtail.
I couldn't ride it at trail centres, rocky descents or in wet mud, whereas every other hardtail I have had has excelled in those conditions.
(I'm pretty likely being a "hardtail snob" in the same way beer snobs are - it is just a hardtail)

I tried to work it out for ages and failed - went to a bike fitter who used an infinitely adjustable thing on my steerer - they moved it in/out, up/down, back/forth with me on rollers for about 45 minutes and we tuned into what was right for me
(I was running a bit too wide, but spot on with stem)

700x38 on my drop bar gravel bike - only works on "gravel"-ish trails in the dry, works fine all the time on tarmac
29x2.1 on my flat bar gravel bike - rolls like a dream everywhere apart from rock gardens

Running always hurts, check in with the pros, and everyone else who has tried!

<wince>
(hope the frame is OK and it is only quite expensive to fix rather than really expensive)

...and I'm finding it weirdly entertaining that fatherhilarious might be being pinged by the bluesky moderation bots - if you are I suspect it is down to the age old "2 countries separated by a common language" thing...

@fatherhilarious.blog interesting that this came up in my feed today (excuse the handle, content seems useful)
bsky.app/profile/astr...
I've now changed a lot of my settings to warn from hide to see what that does to things...
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

First go to the hamburger menu in the upper left corner

bsky has frustrated me for a while for seemingly missing posts from my feed.

I particularly notice folks like you who often reply to their own posts, but I only see the reply and never see the first post - disappointing, esp how many I might be missing from folks who don't reply/repost...
November 6, 2025 at 8:14 PM
...cos I've deleted my facebook and twitter accounts, so am only listening on bsky...
November 6, 2025 at 7:43 PM
After a few quiet days leading up to his UK TV show on Tue for some reason, and then the show not mentioning bsky as a means of connecting (like the show has done for months), the account has started posting again with the usual mix of personal level "Martin" posts plus generic team posts - phew

Absolutely - great plan - except I've got the week off to catch up on decorating and house chores that have built up over the year when I've been out riding/hiking instead of doing those jobs 😭
I'll be with you in spirit as I roller the ceiling
