San Joaquin Valley ozone has been less dangerous this summer. The graph shows fewer federal violations than I can remember at this time of year ... still a long way from healthy air out there.

Buck Rock in the Southern Sierra Nevada has some gorgeous late-summer views this morning. cameras.alertcalifornia.org?pos=36.6089_...

I do love the view of Yosemite's high country, but today the smoke from wildfire make it tougher to see. yosemite.org/webcams/high...

Came across this old photo of a marmot pal who wanted to eat food in my backpack. I neglected to name this critter. Not even sure if it was male or female.

Watching a Friday morning in #Yosemite National Park. Thanks for the view, Yosemite Conservancy.

Listening to the Who. "Won't Get Fooled Again." Relishing the song and remembering the days. But that was 1971.

Southern Sierra Nevada nine years ago today. A reminder that a pleasant summer like this one can turn the air into something you can taste and almost chew.

Debating a not-so-subtle subject: Sinking land resulting from too much water pumping in the San Joaquin Valley.

Huntington Lake at 7,000 feet in the Sierra Nevada east of Fresno. Part of the vast hydroelectric chain in this region. I love this July photo, but I'm more attracted to winter snowshoeing up there.

The Sierra Nevada from the east side. Webcam is at Silver Peak above 10,000 feet in the White Mountains, across the other side of Owens Valley. Sweet Sunday look.

I needed a smile. Looked for and found these dog-eared volumes from a time in the last century. Love Russell Baker's writing. And I can't tell you how many times I laughed out loud on planes or trains reading Hunter Thompson's Gonzo Papers, Vol. I.

In case you've forgotten last July in Fresno. A truly warm start to July looks like this. BTW, last July was the warmest month on record in Fresno. #climate

If anything deserves the words "big" and "beautiful," this is it. The view of Yosemite Valley, El Capitan and Half Dome. You can catch the live view here: www.yosemite.com/plan-your-tr...

Making plans for the Fourth. Older daughter's dog is called Stanlee. Younger one has a dog called Bash. Both freak out at Fourth of July proceedings. There may be sedation involved this year.

Watching Yosemite Valley warm up today. Gorgeous Saturday. I'm not there, of course. But webcams help. Thanks Yosemite Conservancy. www.yosemite.com/plan-your-tr...

My backyard garden cam picked up a couple of raccoons passing through our yard this week. They seemed surprised by the light ... sorry guys.

PG&E announced this morning that my new account page would be ready by 8 a.m. ... after months of preparation. I kinda miss my old account page.

This one is 30 years old. Passed through this snow around 13,000 feet on walk up to Mount Whitney summit, tallest peak in lower 48 states. Great way to chill in August.
