I used Golden Absorbent Ground in several very thin layers, 5-10 minutes between coats.
Then the 3d surfaces took watercolor beautifully! I used black gouache for the eyes, nose, mouths. Pan pastels in a berry color for the cheeks. And uv resin to glaze.

Once that cured (24 hours) I painted it with Badger Airbrush Stynylrez SNR-401 primer in white.
At this point, the surface was still too smooth for watercolor. 1/2
