During the Building Safety Bill - we worked with the government for 8 months to ensure "Polluter Pays" clauses were added to the Building Safety Act along with developer "voluntary" contributions which became the Remediation Contracts.

Back in the 1980s cowboy builders were broke fire safety regulations because they could get away with it.

Fast forward to 2025 and we have a partial remediation standard where combustible material banned on new buildings is allowed.

My speech to the @libdems.org.uk conference in Bournemouth calling for the construction industry to pay for all defects in blocks of flats, all 1.7 million excluded leaseholders protected and an end to the watered down remediation standard condemning people to permanently high insurance..

With £432,000,000 worth of defects at just one development in London, 14,000 forced evacuations due to defects, 1.7 million excluded leaseholders liable to pay remediation costs. It appears the lessons of Grenfell haven't been learnt.
