From reports asking intrusive questions and requesting essays for the tiniest details, Western orgs are fond of asking marginalized communities to transcribe their reality in rigid and unyielding formats. Do Africans & other vulnerable communities need to document all of their anguish to be counted?

From official news outlets to regular social media users, we are all complicit in using “tame” / “neutral” words to obscure and diminish the weight of violence.
