Yes, I have a certain group in mind when typing this. Yes, I am speaking from personal experience. And the social climate has only become more dangerous in the past year. Events, even lighthearted ones, are no longer safe by default.

Stick together. Use the buddy system. Carry self-defense and avoid being alone in costume, even if it's only for a few minutes. DO NOT rely on group leadership to safeguard your well-being. Do not assume leadership will prioritize your safety in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
