and the FWF. IMO, CoalitionS is a completely failed policy, and the stubbornly continue on that path. scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2023/11/16/a...

The precarity of jobs for ECRs also quite telling!

so yes, green OA is allowed, but only without an embargo period under CC_BY licence. In in humanities, publishing on the platforms you mentioned is not going to get you jobs or grants...

This is clearly hurts researchers who move to other EU countries, or are in-between jobs or work in small unis. You are requiered to publish OA even after the funding has ended. www.fwf.ac.at/en/about-us/...

Unis have repositories, also allowed to publish on non-commercial repositories. Unis get funding from the funder for OA fees (dep.on how much grants they won), but if your small uni does not have transformative agreements, you cannot use that money. Same if you move to a uni in a different country

So the big five again extract funding.
August 4, 2025 at 6:44 PM
Researchers at unis which have transformative agreements can publish - unis are paying those fees, but the problem arises when no longer at such big Austrian uni. Otherwise not possible.

No longer for contracts from 2021. (My contract allows green OA, but this too is tricky and burdensome!)
August 4, 2025 at 4:03 PM
My Austrian funder has an OA mandate, and this either results in publishing in obscure journals or not publishing at all. CoalitionS has so many unintended consequences, manly to the detriment of precarious scholars & ECRs.

The local bus from Omiš to Split in Croatia, too. My proof: advertisment for Croatian army behind the driver.
