While House Republicans continue to exert their personal religious views in hearings with no disregard for the separation of church and state, I will continue to ‘grandstand’ for ALL people, when it comes to addressing the real policy needs of women, children, and families.

Btw, I drafted and originally sponsored one of these bipartisan bills because I believe in providing options for parents in desperate situations —and saving lives.

Unfortunately, my bill was taken out of the package, and handed to a Republican member, by the House Speaker.

and “we have a system in this state that will give every access to a woman to end the life of her child but will not help to come alongside and save that baby and give her options.”

On her role at pregnancy centers:
“when I was a volunteer, we had moms to be as young as 14.”

We heard testimony from one of the Republican bill sponsors, who took this as an opportunity to suggest that

“We've made every convenience possible in the state of Michigan if you want to choose to have an abortion,”

…the WIC program, while not acknowledging the deep systemic issues and support needed for women to raise children. They then used the hearing to promote their personal religious views —an inappropriate use of a government meeting.
