At the center of Columbia Falls, it's previously been a granery, dry goods & grocer, post office & antique store.

The porch was built on in 1889 when Richard Allen bought the store. He hired his nephew, Frank Allen, to run it. Frank lived next door w/is wife Maria. #maine #mainehistory #history

In this photo is the Spirit of St. Louis, sheltered against the weather as Lindbergh awaits better conditions on his trip to Portland.

Mary Ruggles Chandler saw the undeniable historic & tourism value of the restored Ruggles House. It reopened to the public in the 1950s. Chandler made friends with a number of wealthy donors in Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island. Courtesy #Maine Memory Net. #mainehistory #mainehistorymonday #history

After a short bout of combat on the deck of the British ship, Capt. Moore was mortally wounded while slinging hand grenades & the Margaretta was captured.

Capt. Moore died at a local home next day & Capt. O'Brien was hailed a local hero for generations.

After regrouping, the local men commandeered a civilian schooner called the Unity on June 12th & elected Jeremiah O'Brien as captain. In the swift ship, the Americans chased down and quickly engaged the HMS Margaretta with canons.

B. Covertly recover cannons lost in nearby shipwreck of the HMS Halifax. Once aware of his plans, the American patriots began to search the town for Moore, who narrowly escaped by fleeing from a local church on June 11th.

They trade protection from rival tribes for food. Without their help the Pilgrims would've starved during their first winter in #Massachusetts 1621.

He was sent by Sachem Massasoit of the Wampanoag Confederacy to formally greet the struggling settlers at Plymouth in peace. He introduced the Pilgrim elders to the Chief, a treaty is signed, & the Pilgrims & Massasoit's men celebrate first harvest.
