Famous author & submariner, Commander of the USS Triton, Captain Edward L Beach Jr. was the honorary captain of the group as his father was captain of the ship at the time of the wreck. Although not a survivor of this tragedy, I may be the last living member of this organization.

My grandfather served on board her prior to the wreck, and I was fortunate enough to meet many of the men who survived. They formed an organization called The Survivors of the USS Memphis and before the last of them died they appointed me a member of the Executive Committee.
