Shared this with some friends and had to explain who the characters were and what was going on. I said I would explain "ever so slightly" and then wrote four paragraphs. Explaining the comic further after that made me come up with this.

I think there was a print error, putting the art on the wrong card, so I fixed it.

Most 2 mana removals either have a condition (ie: non-black) or are sorceries. This is often a 2 mana instant unconditional removal. So long as you've got *some* stuff on the board, chances are you can get 2 black devotion.
