Currently reading: "The Wilderness" by Angela Fournoy

Thoroughly enjoying this glimpse of the lives of Black women navigating life. I feel their struggles are normaliing me. It's what I need right now.

Finally, I'm getting to this one. We had to read Adventures of Huck Finn in high school, and I hated, HATED, how Jim was treated in the book. But I love this new point of view. A great slow mornings read.

Or... I'm gonna age myself with this old photo... but some of yall would really love L.A. Banks' Vampire Huntress series. It's filled with gore, lore, politics, and smut! #BlackBookSky 💙📚

I met her when we hosted her for a signing at our bookstore, Azizi Books, before she passed. She was lovely.

Portrait study in oil. This is the first time I was able to get a whole piece out in one sitting. Well, one day anyway.

"So, let me tell you, when humans are lost in space, it takes only 5 minutes to reach totalitarianism"
- Death's End by Cixin Liu 💙📚

What I find eerily relevant in this book is examining what happens when we lose hope and dive into despair, en masse...

While others intend to survive.

Finished this today at the coffee bar.

"I want to tell you I was wrong. I want to tell you that your oppression will not save you, that being a victim will not enlighten you, that it can just as easily deceive you. I learned that here." 💙📚

Rekeet with a picture of yourself where you are vaguely menacing

(For me, iono, strangers ask me for directions all the time. People sit next to me first on the bus. I dont look menancing enough, despite best efforts...)
