I feel like I'm in a minority for taking an interest in both. But yes, I believe it's easy to consider yourself part of the Yu-Gi-Oh community and not play the TCG when Yu-Gi-Oh also has a thriving anime/fan art/ and fanfiction scene.

It's funny the way the anime and manga are often different conversations from the TCG. Often a lot of people who are big fans of the anime series have no interest in the competitive side of the card game, and many high levels TCG enthusiasts have never seen the anime.
