How naive I was then, believing that facisum and nazism were utterly disreputable political ideologies consigned to the dustbin of history. But now I see it's getting worse and I'm no longer shocked, just depressed.

I thought that line was written to show how crazy or delusional the leader was. A year later, neo-nazis where marching through Charlottesville shouting "jews will not replace us" and a shocking number of politicians and citizens refused to condemn them.

What struck when I watched it was when the leader - played by a VERY scary Patrick Stewart - reminded his followers that "we're not a political party, we're a movement."
