Really says something about these guys when a cyberpunk rap album might be the most accessible they've ever been. Lot of old-school techno and DnB while Daveed just hopscotching over every beat, like always.
Really want to play some Need For Speed now.

Iris has to deal with an obsessive body-swapping fan, and an alien trying to literally fuck a planet to death.
I was iffy on IW initially, but this is just too bonkers for me to resist. Katy Manning was born for this role.

Despite what I said last time, I don't hate MacQueen as the Master. Under certain conditions (usually when the Doctor isn't his only threat), he can hold his own against any of the others to take the role. See this and Master Of The Daleks as prime examples.

Not quite as good as its four-hour runtime can justify (if you're gonna aim for The War Games, AIM for that), but it's a decent adventure that does well with Seventh's audio-exclusive companions.
Still not massive on MacQueen tho. Wrong kind of camp for me.

High degree of difficulty in doing this kind of story right. An origin for the Doctor and the Master's rivalry that completely changes the perception *of* that rivalry and every encounter contained within.
That it works at all is impressive. This well, miraculous.

Trying to be Sun Makers (minor annoyance elevated to class warfare) but it just repeats the one joke that would've been a quick aside in a Douglas Adams novel.
John Dorney pitching this must've looked like Stephen King talking about a lamp monster.

A Grecian farce that serves as a cooldown point during a particularly intense story arc (the Elder Gods stuff has been AMAZING), but what really makes it work is that the story itself is all about the healing power of comedy in the wake of tragedy. Get your Dionysus on!

An interesting sister story to Human Nature, pulling inspiration from both the original VNA and the televised two-part adaptation to bolster its own look at what defines humanity and how disturbingly creative the Doctor can get with his foes.

I first heard The Lovecraft Invasion before this, and after witnessing that story's well-meaning but cack-handed preachiness, it's pretty bizarre to see this franchise treat its ersatz Lovecraft with understanding and empathy.
Providence vibes.

@diamandahagan.bsky.social once described this as "like a perfect game of Tetris" and that is crazy accurate. An astounding synthesis of the metafiction exercises that make for the best Sixth Doctor stories, and Seventh's iconic chess-playing with higher beings.

Steve Foxon's music really elevates this. Reminds me of the rockier tracks from the older Silent Hill games, and it works a treat for this story about fighting monsters and how easy it is to become one.

The Doctor finds himself in a madhouse... again.
Explaining what makes this so bloody brilliant would involve spoiling it, so let's just say that the Seventh Doctor as cosmic Grandmaster is utilised to the fullest here. Best showing from [REDACTED VILLAIN] too.

Presented entirely as an in-universe news radio broadcast, this dark political thriller effectively portrays the propaganda model at work on a colony planet. Truly monstrous revelations.
All hail Ace the Rebel Queen!

#ListeningTo Dreamtime
An esoteric spin on the 'Earth evacuation' lore established by The Ark In Space, with the Aboriginal Dreamtime as an interstellar city.
Similar to Kinda and (oddly enough) South Park's Imaginationland in showing the colonisation of myth itself. Hazy but effective.

Doctor Who still comes across hypocritical with anti-drug messaging, but the depiction of rave culture here works way more often than not. Sly commentary on military and/or religious recruitment of the disaffected.
Bleak drama and absurd humour; very Rob Shearman-esque

The first reunion of Seventh and Ace since Dimensions In Time shows them firing off on all cylinders. This story could've been released today and it'd still be scarily accurate. A political thriller that doesn't take the easy way out, a rarity both then and now.

These are the voyages of the starship Make Shit Up.
Pretty good Star Trek piss-take, made funnier by how Ace keeps referencing TNG... which given the timeline means that she's working off of the early seasons, when the show was at its worst.
That taunt battle was nice too.

By-the-numbers in the most literal and annoying way possible. The gag of the Numlocks introducing themselves gets tiring at the fourth attempt, let alone the fourty-seventh, and they drag down what could have been a decent update of the Third Doctor-style enviro-conscious story.

Raine is like if Lady Christina was actually cool and actually a character. Really like the dynamic between her and Ace; probably better than the original plan of her being the new solo companion.
Also, sexist sword-fighting insects who talk like surfer dudes.

The Season 27 That Wasn't opens with a banger.
The character work, the pacing, the soundtrack (those drums!), the juxtaposition of the Ice Warriors and the Iron Curtain (Cold War, eat your heart out); this is the first Lost Story I've heard that I wish made it onto the show.

Suspension of disbelief saves the universe.
Not the best of the 50th anniversary stories (Day Of The Doctor reigns supreme!), but it's a fun multi-Doctor romp. Fourth/Eighth's chemistry is top-notch.
