This quote, from a campaign speech in 1922, by Fiorello H. La Guardia (former New York City Mayor) evidences that Mamdani would not be the city’s first socialist mayor.

Besides many staff members quitting the National Endowment for the Arts, many grantees received letters terminating their open/pending grants. The language in the termination letters is CRAZY.
According to the termination letters: "The NEA will now prioritize projects that elevate the Nation’s HBCUs and Hispanic Serving Institutions, celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence, foster AI competency, empower houses of worship to serve communities, assist with disaster recovery, foster skilled trade jobs, make America healthy again, support the military and veterans, support Tribal communities, make the District of Columbia safe and beautiful, and support the economic development of Asian American communities. Funding is being allocated in a new direction in furtherance of the Administration’s agenda."

The entire dance department at the National Endowment for the Arts just quit.
Dear Friends and Colleagues, We are writing to share some personal news with all of you. NEA staff were recently given an offer to leave the agency through the Deferred Resignation Program or, if eligible, retirement. After a lot of reflection, we accepted the Deferred Resignation Program and we have each decided to step down from our positions at the National Endowment for the Arts. This was a very difficult decision to make, but it was the best option for each of us. We have been a small but mighty team who did our best to support and uplift artists, administrators, companies, and organizations in our incredible dance field. It has been an honor to serve the dance field and to do so in partnership with incredible colleagues. We will remain at the agency through the end of May. After May 30, 2025, you may email NEA staff at dance@arts.gov with any questions. It has been a privilege to serve the dance field these many years. We look forward to connecting with you down the road. Take good care, Sara, Kate, and Juliana

WATCH THE GAP. Photo is of a decaying MetroNorth platform that had all of its cracks marked out in day glo spray paint more than two years ago. Has that platform been fixed? No, it has not.
