In Mesoamerica archeologistst tend to be extremely skeptical even of solstitial alignments actually mentioned in written sources, like the Templo Mayor.

Not that I know of. Also no word for solstice but those they did observe. On the night sky they seem to gave tracked stsrs eith much more interest than the moon. Thry did and do take account if lunar phases for agriculture.

That definitely sounds like a calque. There are many if such calques in the Mesoamerican culture are as well. But not that particular one. I know several languages of the Mississippi area used sun as a royal title. Suggesting sun worship.

There is a a possibility that mexihko comes from mets-xik-ko moon-navel-loc, though it requires some slightly wonky sound changes. The main argument in favour is that the Otomi name for the same place is Amadetsäna which means "in the middle of the moon".
